EOFY is a good time to look at where profit is getting stuck in your workshop.

Not the obvious stuff like rent and electricity. The awkward jobs. The ones that sit in the corner waiting for programming, OEM access, ADAS calibration or a second opinion.

Most workshops don’t need Remote Services every day. In fact, most jobs should be handled by your own team.

But when that one vehicle turns up that needs Secure Gateway Access, OEM Diagnostics, Programming or ADAS Calibration, having the right support available can be the difference between invoicing the job this week or chasing it again next week.

At the end of this article we’ve included a few simple things worth looking at before 30 June. Not homework. Just a quick way to see where money might be slipping through the cracks.

Every workshop has them.

The jobs that should have been finished on Tuesday.

Then Wednesday rolls around.

Someone is waiting on information. The vehicle needs Programming. A warning light won’t clear. The manufacturer procedure isn’t obvious. Somebody’s on hold trying to get access to something buried three menus deep.

Suddenly a one-hour job has become a three-day job.

That’s where profit disappears.

Not because the technician isn’t capable. Not because the workshop lacks skill.

Modern vehicles are simply more complicated than they were five years ago.

A routine repair can now involve OEM Diagnostics, Secure Gateway Access, Programming and ADAS Calibration before the keys go back to the customer.

Most workshops don’t encounter those situations every day.

Which is exactly why many are keeping Remote Services available as backup.

One of the best comments we heard at CRE2026 came from workshops who saw the asTech Link in action.

They weren’t looking to outsource diagnostics.

They weren’t looking to replace their technicians.

They simply liked the idea of having another tool in the toolbox for the jobs that get awkward.

That’s probably the best way to think about it.

Your team handles the vast majority of repairs.

Remote Diagnostics, OEM Diagnostics and Remote Services are there for the exceptions.

The jobs that would otherwise end up sitting around waiting.

The jobs that get referred elsewhere.

The jobs that quietly chew through margin.

For collision repairers and glass businesses, ADAS Calibration is becoming a perfect example.

Many repairs can be completed in-house.

Others need additional support, manufacturer procedures, Programming or OEM Diagnostics to get across the line.

Having access to Remote Services means those jobs can often stay under your roof instead of becoming somebody else’s revenue.

And that’s really the EOFY question.

Not “What can I buy before 30 June?”

But:

“What is costing me money right now?”

A few things worth looking at before 30 June

  • Which jobs sat in the workshop longer than they should have?
  • How many vehicles needed OEM Diagnostics, Programming or Secure Gateway Access?
  • How many ADAS Calibration jobs were sent elsewhere?
  • Were there jobs your technicians could have completed if they had faster access to support?
  • How much labour time was lost waiting for answers?

You might find the answer is nothing.

You might find there’s a surprising amount of profit hiding in those awkward jobs.

Either way, EOFY is a good time to find out.

Because sometimes the most valuable tool in the workshop isn’t the one you use every day.

It’s the one that’s there when you need it.
