Inside the Workflow: How Repairers Are Using Remote Services to Take Back Control
Part 2 of our series exploring how modern workshops are integrating remote diagnostics, ADAS calibration and coding into their daily operations.
In Part 1, we met Bradley from Repairify—the remote technician helping workshops through calibrations, coding, and diagnostics—both from behind the screen and on site. But behind every remote job is a workshop getting their hands dirty, and in Part 2, we’re looking at how these services are being used on the ground, from post-repair scans to advanced radar calibrations.
Making It Part of the Daily Routine
For many workshops, remote diagnostics and calibrations are no longer something special—they’re just part of getting the job done.
“Some shops will message us the moment the bumper’s back on,” Bradley says.
“We’re already watching the data stream from the scan tool while they’re cleaning up the bay.”
One common use? Post-repair vehicle scans. These checks verify that all systems are functioning correctly after a collision repair and ensure no hidden faults are left behind. Workshops plug in the Repairify unit, initiate a scan, and within minutes, Bradley and the remote team are reviewing fault codes and guiding the next steps.
But it doesn’t stop there. Increasingly, shops are using the service for module coding and radar calibration—tasks once outsourced or avoided entirely due to complexity.
“A lot of the newer vehicles have control modules that need coding even after a minor bingle,” Bradley says.
“And most aftermarket scan tools just can’t talk to those systems.”
Beyond Reading Codes
Remote Services go far beyond just pulling fault codes. For vehicles with secure gateways—like Fiat Chrysler, Renault, or Mercedes-Benz—the ability to access systems using OEM tools is essential. Repairify’s remote platform provides that access without the massive investment.
“We had a workshop last week doing a front radar calibration on a late-model Nissan,” Bradley recalls.
“They’d replaced the radar unit, bolted everything back up, and just needed it programmed. Five minutes after they plugged in, we had the OEM specs loaded, ran the calibration sequence, and they were done before lunch.”
This type of rapid turnaround isn’t just convenient—it means more jobs completed each week and fewer vehicles sitting around waiting for mobile techs. It also lowers the risk of comebacks.
“If a radar isn’t aligned properly, the ADAS system might throw errors or, worse, behave unpredictably on the road,” he adds.
What You Actually Need
Using Remote Services doesn’t require ripping up your whole setup. According to Bradley, most panel shops already have what they need.
“A stable internet connection, a 10-by-6-metre space if they’re doing static calibrations, and a bit of training—that’s it.”
Repairify provides that training during onboarding, with in-person support handled by Sean, Bradley, and the field team.
“After that, it’s just a matter of getting comfortable with the workflow,” Bradley says.
“The more you use it, the easier it gets.”
Some workshops integrate the Repairify unit directly into their process flow. The car comes off the frame machine, goes to paint, then to reassembly—where the final step before delivery is a scan, a calibration, or a module program done via remote support.
For others, it’s opened up entirely new business opportunities. A few savvy operators have set up dedicated mobile units—vans fully equipped with scan tools and a Repairify connection—offering on-site calibrations and diagnostics as a new revenue stream.
The Real Return
The payoff is more than just speed. Insurers increasingly require proof that OEM tolerances have been met after critical repairs—particularly when ADAS systems are involved.
“Every job we support comes with a report,” Bradley says.
“If there’s ever a question down the track, the workshop can pull out that report and show the calibration was done to spec.”
It also builds genuine trust with customers.
“When repairers can say to the customer, ‘we’ve done the radar calibration using OEM tools, and here’s the report,’ it’s a whole new level of professionalism.”
Bottom Line
Bradley might not be walking the floor of every workshop, but between remote support and hands-on training visits, he’s there when it counts.
“Most of the guys I work with are just like me—came up on the tools, know what it’s like to get a car out the door with five other jobs waiting,” he says.
“That’s why we’re here. To help them do it properly—and move on to the next one.”
